Meeting Minutes
Parents Meeting (4th Std to 8th Std)
Date: 08/02/2025
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, Freedom Valley School
Attendees: Principal, Parents, and Teachers
Proceedings:
The meeting commenced with the lighting of the lamp and a prayer, followed by an address from Principal Pankaj Sharma, who highlighted the following key points:
- Monthly Feedback:All suggestions and feedback from parents are considered, but the number of responses has decreased compared to the beginning of the academic year. Parents are encouraged to provide regular feedback, including subject- and topic-specific feedback.
- Active Participation in Activities:Parents should encourage students to participate in various school activities, including CCA, IFI (NCC), external exams, and sports, as they help students identify their interests and abilities. To offer students an alternative, the school is planning to introduce Scout & Guides as an option to IFI (NCC). It was noted that students from Class 8 onwards tend to hesitate in participating, and parental support is crucial in encouraging them.
- Aligning Subjects with Practical Knowledge:Subjects, like Social Science, seem less interesting to students. Teachers are encouraged to adopt innovative teaching methods using AI or others such as storytelling, to make lessons more engaging. Certain topics may be exempted from exams, allowing students to focus on essential learning. General Knowledge tests, such as the recent test on the National Song, should be conducted. Students need to be made aware of civic knowledge as part of their learning.
- Developing Critical Thinking:Teachers should incorporate AI tools to explore best practices and methods for conceptual learning. Students should be encouraged to ponder over topics and connect emotionally with subjects for better understanding. Developing critical thinking skills will aid students in preparing for competitive exams like NEET, JEE, and CUET.
- Private Coaching or Tuitions:Parents are advised to encourage students to learn from school teachers rather than opting for private tuitions. If students face difficulties, parents should contact teachers directly. Parent-teacher meetings are scheduled on every 2nd and 4th Saturday for discussions on student improvement. Instead of academic tuitions, students should join activity-based classes to enhance their skills in areas of interest.
- Goal of Education:Education should help students define their aims and objectives. Confidence, character, and knowledge should be nurtured through the collective efforts of parents and teachers.
- Exam Attendance:Parents should ensure that students attend exams seriously and do not remain absent. Re-examinations will not be conducted for any subject.
- Impact of Changing Schools Frequently:Frequently switching schools negatively affects a child’s academic growth. It has been observed that students who re-admit after changing schools often perform below average and struggle to maintain progress.
- Teacher Retention and School Stability:The teacher retention ratio is maintained, but the school may need to appoint and train new teachers as per the school’s requirements. The school assured parents that despite these challenges, quality education remains a priority.
Conclusion:
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement on strengthening the collaboration between parents, teachers, and the school to ensure students’ holistic development. Parents had discussions with the subject teachers regarding exams, the progress of the child etc. and parents were thanked for their participation and valuable input.
